About Davis & Elkins College

Nestled in the mountains of West Virginia, Davis & Elkins is a small liberal arts college with a big reputation - one of the best baccalaureate colleges in the south, according to U.S.News & World Report magazine's annual guide to America's Best Colleges.

Our students thrive on a caring combination of personal attention, academic challenge, and real-life experience. We believe in them and expect them to succeed. And they do.

D&E is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA), and our mission includes nurturing people who will go on to improve their communities and their world.

Programs

D&E offers more than 30 academic programs leading to baccalaureate and associate degrees, ranging from the traditional arts and sciences to professional studies - including nursing and teacher education - as well as innovative programs such as hospitality management and tourism. Criminology, one of our newer majors, is very popular. Pre-professional programs prepare students for admission to schools of medicine, dentistry, forestry, the ministry, occupational therapy, pharmacy and law. The Honors Program offers an extra challenge for highly motivated students!

Opportunities

Davis & Elkins is one of a small group of colleges nationwide that offer a Winter Term program. It's a three-week term in January when we offer intensive, often unusual courses to enhance education. Classes tend to be small and focused with plenty of hands-on activity. Some include an off-campus or study-abroad component. And during the regular semester, our students can intern with government agencies and corporations in the nation's capital, thanks to D&E's affiliation with The Washington Center.

Outcomes

Graduates of Davis & Elkins College go on to prestigious graduate programs and prominent national firms. In a recent survey, more than 80% of those who responded reported working in careers related to their academic major.

Location

Our scenic, wooded campus is located in Elkins, West Virginia, a lively, arts-oriented community of 10,000 in West Virginia's Potomac Highlands. Within the town are three National Historic Districts and a variety of shops, restaurants, and pubs. Just minutes away is the Monongahela National Forest -- almost a million acres of natural playground. Elkins is close to whitewater rafting, mountain biking, rock climbing, and several popular ski resorts, including Snowshoe Mountain and Canaan Valley.

Winter Term

Winter Term provides a distinct advantage to D&E students each January. Just three weeks long, Winter Term lets students focus on one course and provides a wide range of innovative options. Although traditional classes are offered, many experiential, off-campus courses are available. You can explore one subject to its fullest – whether it’s international cuisine in the Graceland Kitchen, travel writing in Big Bend National Park, political science in Salzburg or watershed systems in southern Florida, Winter Term offers exciting choices in your field of study.

The New Athletics Center

The new McDonnell Center for Health, Physical Education, & Athletics will open this fall, providing exciting new facilities for our student athletes, fans, and physical education program. Key features include a 1,200-seat arena, the D&E Athletic Hall of Fame, an elevated running track, athletics training suite, dedicated locker rooms, and classroom space.
