Off-Campus Study

Study Abroad OpportunitiesDavis & Elkins College is a member of the Private College Consortium for International Studies (PCCIS) that operates a study abroad program in London, England. Through this organization D&E faculty members may propose classes they will teach at Imperial College - and students from PCCIS colleges may register to take those courses. Spending a full semester or a summer term in London provides many opportunities using foreign resources and having cross-cultural experiences for faculty members and students alike.

Davis & Elkins College provides other study abroad options through the Appalachian College Association. D&E faculty and students have traveled to Mexico, South Africa, and Greece.

Davis & Elkins College participates in an Irish - American Scholar exchange program through the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the Association of Presbyterian Colleges and Universities. Through this program a D&E student may study for a semester or the full academic year at one of three institutions in Northern Ireland - Queens University, University of Ulster, or Belfast Institute of Further & Higher Education. Students accepted to this program are able to study in virtually any discipline. Also through this program two or three Irish students study at D&E each year.

The Washington CenterThe Washington Center is a non-profit organization that provides internships and academic seminars in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area to students from more than 800 colleges and universities nationwide. Students who are placed as interns through the center gain hands-on experience in a wide range of professional fields with private organizations as well as government agencies. The internships are offered throughout the year and are open to Davis & Elkins students who are at least second-semester sophomores. During the 10- to 15-week program, students are awarded 12 to 16 credits by Davis & Elkins College. They take an evening class once a week and work full-time with a company of their choice or by placement through The Washington Center. See the Academic Affairs Office for more information and application procedures.
