Facilities
Boiler House Theatre - The building was built in 1924 as the central heating facility for the campus, became
obsolete in 1971 when individual boilers were installed in campus buildings. It was renovated and reborn as a theatre
in 1975. For the past twenty years it has served well as the main stage production area providing sufficiently commodious
and convenient performance space for all types of drama. It is a 40' by 60' open space with movable audience rises enabling
the productions to be staged in just about any style the director desires. The seating ranges from about 125 to 200 seats
depending on the style utilized. Productions have been mounted in the round, proscenium, thrust, partial thrust, and
environmental formats. when renovation was done in 1975, dressing rooms, a small lobby, and a storage space were added to
the building. In 1994 a complete lighting grid was added and in 1995 a new light system was installed with the Strange CD
80 dimmer rack (80 units) and an LBX Genius control board.
In 1996 further renovations were begun, enlarging the lobby/public area, adding a much needed scenery construction shop,
and enlarging the studio performance area into a more complete studio theatre.
Studio theatre - The upstairs storage area in the Boiler House Theatre was converted into a studio theatre in 1990.
This area provides a 55 seat performance space dedicated to student-directed productions, acting class performances and any
other student supervised events. With the renovations begun in 1996, the studio theatre will have more adequate lighting,
backstage space, and access to dressing rooms, showers, and toilets.
