Bachelor
of Arts Degree in Music
Course
offerings in music lead to achieving the primary goal of the musical
training and nurturing of the liberal arts student. This goal is
attained through course offerings of three basic types: (1) lecture-discussion
classes in which the student develops intellectual understandings
of music, (2) performance-oriented classes in which the student
develops technical music-making skills, and (3) laboratory classes
in which the student gets "hands on" experience in certain aspects
of music.
The courses and performances offered by the Music Program seek to
enrich the cultural environment of the campus and the community
toward the ultimate aim of instilling cultural literacy, awareness,
and appreciation in all who participate. Performance activities
provide the foundation for the Music Program's growth and success;
students are encouraged to participate in its performing ensembles.
