For Students
Students at Davis & Elkins can begin exploration or clarification of career
direction and goals immediately upon arriving on campus. Career clarification usually begins
with a one-on-one appointment with our career advisor and the completion of one or more surveys
may follow in order to assist students with the examination of career direction.
Following conversations may include but are not limited to a choice of major and/or minor field
of study, exploration of a possible internship, the development of job search strategies
(including effectively searching for summer or seasonal jobs), resume and cover letter development,
and graduate school identification and application.
Students also have free access to an online career management and job search system called the
College Central Network. Students may log on to
www.collegecentral.com/davisandelkins and click
on "Students" to register for these services. System users may search for position opening postings
specifically for D&E students as well as on a nationwide system of postings.
Specific assistance available in the Office of Career Services includes but is not limited to:
- Interest exploration to discover academic and career options
- Research to clarify optional directions within a chosen career
- Measurement of personal preferences
- Development of career search strategies
- Design and production of professional, powerful resumes
- Creation of clearly written and effective cover letters
- Strengthening/polishing of interviewing skills/techniques
- Development of a professional credential file
