Season Still On the Rocks For D&E As They Lose 10th
Elkins--The Davis and Elkins College men’s basketball program lost their 10th game of the season last night as they played host to Florida Gulf Coast University in the Memorial Gymnasium. Struggling at the end of the first half, D&E was down 37-27, and pulled things together as they have done many times this season to pull within four points at one point in the game. The Senators (now 0-10) ended up falling to the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles (now 12-6) with a final score of 79-68.
It was sort of a homecoming for Ryan Hopkins (19pts, 6rb, 4 steals) and Bryan Crislip (18pts, 4 assists, 4 steals), both sophomore standouts from Parkersburg South High School as they returned to West Virginia with a visiting Florida Gulf Coast team. They joined Robinson Tisme (19pts, 10rb, 3 steals) to help the Eagles take home a hard fought win.
Davis and Elkins was led by four players on double figures including Chris Sutton (21pts, 4rb, 2 steals), Dmitry Anoshin (13pts, 9rb), Mike Miller (10pts), and A.J. Patterson (10pts). Matt Towell also lead the Senators with rebounding as he was able to pull down 12 boards along with hitting 7 points on the night. According to D&E coach Amrit Rayfield, “Allowing them to force us into mistakes earlier in the game gave them the confidence to keep the pressure on us longer. However, our kids played hard and continue to improve every game.” The Senators had 12 turnovers in the first half and ended the game with 24 turnovers. Up next for D&E is a visiting Mount Aloysius team on Saturday, January 11th. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 2pm in the Davis & Elkins College Memorial Gymnasium.
