| Davis & Elkins College Department of Nursing Hosts National League for Nursing Accreditation Site Visit |
The Department of Nursing has applied for continuing accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). This is a voluntary, self-regulatory process that provides evaluation of the program and ensures educational quality. A site visit is scheduled for February 27-March 1, 2006 for the purpose of assessing the program in nursing, its practices and procedures. A self-study report was written by the nursing faculty and submitted in advance to the NLNAC. That document is on reserve in the Booth Library for review.

| D&E Students in Free Enterprise Receive “I CHOOSE” Grant |
Elkins, WV – The Davis and Elkins College Students in Free Enterprise Team has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the SIFE and Marcus Foundation Partnership entitled, I CHOOSE!” Goals are to “impact the lives of low-income and at-risk teenagers” through “a mentorship program.” Objectives are centered around motivating, educating, and empowering high-school age students through the mechanics of the free enterprise system. Through hands-on applications students will actively embrace and tackle the “Entrepreneurship Initiative” through the lens of a business owner. A formal mentoring plan will include a member of the D&E SIFE team and an entrepreneur of the student’s choice to assist in a new or established business venture. Plans will include entrepreneur-ready skills and business functions that enable participants to create their own business through professional plans centering on careers in business, Internet research, strategic planning, financial literacy, computer literacy, ethics, critical and creative thinking.

Davis & Elkins College Completes Phase I of Athletics Center

Elkins, WV – Davis & Elkins College has completed the first phase of construction of its new Center for Health, Physical Education and Athletics. Located to the north of the College’s Hermanson Campus Center, the 41,316-square-foot structure was begun last summer. This week, crews wrapped up all exterior work as well as interior structural projects and rough-in for utilities. According to D&E President Tom Mann, Phase I has been completed on schedule, as planned, and has been paid for entirely, thanks to the leadership and generosity of the College’s Board of Trustees and other donors to D&E’s Centennial Campaign. Fundraising is now under way to begin Phase II.

| Davis & Elkins to Host Free History Alive! Speaker Tuesday |
Elkins, WV - The Davis & Elkins College Department of Education will host a free History Alive! Presentation Tuesday, February 7, at 1:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Booth Library. The chatauqua-style presentation will feature Carter G. Woodson (1875 - 1950), the Father of Black History, who will be portrayed by Norman Jordan. Jordan is CEO of the African-American Heritage Family Tree Museum in Ansted, teaches theatre at Glenville State Community and Technical College and is West Virginia's most published African-American poet.
