Deja vu to Include Alumni Bands
Posted: 04/22/10
Beginning with games and bands on the Hermanson Center Plaza and concluding with music and dancing at the Augusta Dance Pavillion, Saturday of Déjà vu is bound to have a little something for everyone.
Chris Gilligan will kick things off at 12:00 noon with an acoustic rock set. Chris, a Hospitality Management & Tourism major who graduated in 2005, was very active during his time on campus as a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and the honorary business fraternity Beta Alpha Beta.
At 2:10 PM, The Ginsangers will take the stage. The Ginsangers are fronted by Connie Townsend, a 1999 graduate currently working in the D&E Center for Sustainability Studies and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness. While a student at D&E, Connie majored in English and participated in the theatre program. Popular throughout the region, the Ginsangers will perform their signature blend of Americana, Country, Blues and Folk. The Ginsangers are Sirius/XM radio featured artists and recently played the D&E Sustainability Fair.
Beginning at 3:20 will be Blackwater Mojo, husband-wife duo of Seth and Erin Young. Seth graduated in 2001 with a degree in Music Education. He currently conducts the D&E Stage Band, and teaches choir and general music at Elkins Middle School. Majoring in Sociology and History with a minor in Secondary Education, Erin will graduate this spring. Describing their sound as “rock de-evolved”, Blackwater Mojo will perform hard-hitting blues and rock. They play extensively throughout the region.
Inflatable games and other attractions on the Hermanson Center Plaza will open at noon and remain open until 4:10.
Picking up at 8:00 PM in the Augusta Dance Pavilion will be DC-Area rock group Hotspur. Gaining regional and national notoriety, Hotspur plays some of the most prestigious clubs on the east coast, and has been featured on MTV-U. In 2009, they picked up a “Best New Artist” award from the Washington Area Music Association.
9:20 will bring Tampa-based Shane Meade & the Sound, a popular acoustic rock band throughout our region and their home base of Florida. The band, which features guitarist, singer and songwriter Shane Meade, a 1997 Political Science graduate and former member of the Men’s Basketball team, has entertained audiences from here to the Virgin Islands with their blend of soul-infused acoustic rock. Joining the band on saxophone will be Rob Masten, former D&E band director. An Elkins favorite, Shane will also rock this summer’s “Rich Mountain Throwdown” festival in July.
Lucid Music, a three man group out of Pittsburgh, is dedicated to the preservation of original hip-hop. They have released four albums, including “Adventures of the Invisible Band,” which was released in April 2009. Lucid Music will bring down the pavilion beginning at 10:40 PM.
Concluding Saturday’s Déjà vu festivities will be Cincinnati-based Lucky and the Magic, featuring 2001 graduate Allen Talbott. During his time at D&E, Allen majored in theatre and was a member of Alpha Psi Omega, the theatre honorary fraternity. Along with Lucky & the Magic, Allen plays throughout Cincinnati with a number of other bands. Sure to tear the roof off the pavilion, Lucky and the Magic, who play frequently throughout Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia, will begin their set of high-energy reggae and soul at 11:50.
