Our mission:

To prepare and inspire students for success and for thoughtful engagement in the world.

Our New Student Orientation Program is a week-long program focusing on the transition of first year students into Davis & Elkins College by preparing them for D&E's educational opportunities and by incorporating new students into the intellectual, personal, social, and spiritual climate of the Davis & Elkins College community. The exciting schedule is currently being finalized, but new students should plan on arriving to Campus on Saturday, August 22, 2009.

9:00 a.m.-noon, Halliehurst

Orientation Check-in (Resident Students Only)

You’ll check in and receive your Orientation materials as well as your room key and other important material to help you prepare for your start at D&E.

10:00 a.m.-noon, Halliehurst

Orientation Check-in (Commuter Students)

Check in and receive your Orientation materials for the weekend.

After a series of afternoon programs, family and friends are asked to depart following dinner which takes place from 5:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. in the Benedum Dining Room.  There is a special room rate available for families and friends who are joining the Davis & Elkins College community for New Student Orientation at the Graceland Inn and Conference Center. New Student Orientation Goals

To provide direct programs and services for incoming students and their families which address the process of transition, introduce them to the curricular and co-curricular opportunities available, and provide opportunities for them to become active members of the Davis & Elkins College community.

To provide information, direction and support to all campus offices and departments in orienting new students. To actively include current students in the process of incorporating new students as members of the Davis & Elkins College community.

To design programs which familiarize incoming students with the character, values and traditions of Davis & Elkins College.

New Student Orientation Learning Objectives

The New Student Orientation program has identified the following learning outcomes as an integral part of its programs and services. The Department of Student Life will design, co-sponsor, and support departmental and campus programs which seek to help students

• become effective decision-makers.

• understand their role as a community member.
